Autumn 1 Term

This term our topic is Under the Sea

We will be looking closely at the story Commotion in the Ocean. We will begin to look at phase 2 phonics, reading and writing CVC words– please can I encourage children read as much as possible at home!

This half term we will be getting to know each other and making new friends.

Please have a look at ‘The Curriculum Overview’ below to learn all about the exciting new things we will be learning about this half term.

Homework

Each half term Reception receive a homework grid. There are a variety of activities to have a go at on the grid. We understand that family life is busy therefore it is not essential that all of these activities are completed, we do ask that your child aims to complete some of the activities to reinforce their learning across the curriculum and allows children to showcase their creative skills.

Home Reading

Your child’s reading book will be changed twice a week (Monday and Friday). Please read the book with your child then encourage them to have a go independently, talk about the story with them and ask questions to develop comprehension skills.

Don’t forget to use the online eBooks Bug Club as well!

P.E.

Reception has a P.E. session every Thursday morning. Please can you ensure children come to school in their P.E. kit ready.

Cool Milk

If you would like your child to have milk you will need to register them on the cool milk website. Once your child has turned 5 if you wish for them to continue having milk it is important you re-register and pay the required termly fee.

Tapestry

In Reception we have a learning platform called ‘Tapestry’.

‘Tapestry’ is a secure online Learning Journal to record photos, observations and comments, in line with the Reception curriculum, to build up a record of your child’s experiences during their time with us. It is also an extremely effective platform to help us support both yourself and your child’s learning at home.

Please continue to check Tapestry regularly to see all the hard work your children have been getting up to throughout the day.

Thank you
