Year 1 2020 - 2021
Welcome to Year 1.
Our class teacher is Miss Lamb and our teaching assistant is Mrs McKee.
Happy New Year!
Welcome back to Year 1. We hope you have had a wonderful Christmas break.
We are very much looking forward to starting a fresh new term, and to continue on with our hard work, eager learning and outstanding achievements. During this half term, there will be a heavy focus on phonics, ensuring all children are becoming more confident with their sounds, and therefore improving their reading and writing.
Please have a look at 'The Curriculum Overview' below (file to download) to find out what exciting new things we will be learning about this half term.
Please be assured that as a school we are following the most up to date guidelines with your child's safety being one of our highest priorities.
Unfortunately, at this current time, learning cannot take place in school, in the classroom. Therefore, it is extremely important learning continues at home and is delivered to the highest standard we possibly can. I have attached all learning for this week below. You will find daily English, maths and phonics and also weekly science, RE, art and geography and all the resources required to complete the work. I have also uploaded a file containing useful links to support your child's learning at home.
I would be thrilled to see all the hard work and learning that is taking place at home. It would be wonderful if you could upload your child's achievements to Tapestry or send me your child's work via email on email@example.com
If there is anything at all I can help with and support you with, please do not hesitate to contact me.
The Year 1 team are very excited about intoducing 'Tapestry' this term.
'Tapestry' is a secure online Learning Journal to record photos, observations and comments, in line with the Year 1 curriculum, to build up a record of your child's experiences during their time with us. It is also an extemely effecitve platform to help us support both yourself and your child's learning at home, which is particularly benefical in the current situation.
Please view below 'Tapestry Letter to Parents'.
If you have not yet received a log in for 'Tapestry', please email me (see email above) with your child's name, your name, your email address and clearly state your permission to use 'Tapestry' as a secure online learning journal for your child.
Every half term Year 1 will receive a homework grid. There are a variety of activities to have a go at on the grid. All sheets or information required to complete the homework will be available to download below. We understand that family life is busy therefore it is not essential that all of these activities are completed, we do ask that your child aims to complete some of the activities to reinforce their learning across the curriculum.
Spellings and Home Reading
Your child's reading book will be changed twice a week (Tuesday and Friday). Please read each book with your child and then encourage them to have a go at reading independently. Talking about the story with them and asking questions to develop comprehension skills can be extremely impactful in enhancing their English ability.
Reading at home is incredibly valuable, children who read frequently at home are more likely to obtain the necessary progress required in Year 1. If possible, we would suggest that you read with your child for 10 minutes each night as this is far more effective than trying to encourage them to read at length after a tiring day at school.
Spellings will be handed out every Friday for a spelling test the following Friday. It is extremely important that your child works hard to practise their spellings at home to ensure a good result in their spelling test.
Year 1 have a PE lesson every Thursday morning. Please ensure that your child has a full labelled PE kit in school.
If you would like your child to have milk, you will need to register them on the cool milk and pay the required termly fee.
Thank you for your continued support.
