Year 1 2020 - 2021

Miss Lamb

Year 1

Welcome to Year 1.

Our class teacher is Miss Lamb and our teaching assistants are Mrs Hargreaves and Mrs McKee.

Autumn 1

We hope you have had a wonderful Summer!

We are really looking forward to welcoming you back to start the Autumn term. We understand that you may be feeling slightly apprehensive about the return to school but please be assured that as a school we are following the most up to date guidelines with your child's safety being one of our highest priorities.

During this half term, we will be getting to know each other and settling back into the school routine after such a long time away. Identifying any gaps in your child's learning will be one of our utmost priorities. We have many bridging plans in place to close these gaps so please try not to worry.

Although this will be a busy term as we have lots of learning to do and to catch up on, it's most definitely going to be fun, exciting and creative!

Please have a look at 'The Curriculum Overview' below (file to download) to find out what we will be learning about this half term.

Every half term Year 1 will receive a homework grid. There are a variety of activities to have a go at on the grid. We understand that family life is busy therefore it is not essential that all of these activities are completed, we do ask that your child aims to complete some of the activities to reinforce their learning across the curriculum.

Spellings and Home Reading

Your child's reading book will be changed twice a week (Tuesday and Friday). Please read each book with your child and then encourage them to have a go at reading independently. Talking about the story with them and asking questions to develop comprehension skills can be extremely impactful in enhancing their English ability.

Reading at home is incredibly valuable, children who read frequently at home are more likely to obtain the necessary progress required in Year 1. If possible, we would suggest that you read with your child for 10 minutes each night as this is far more effective than trying to encourage them to read at length after a tiring day at school.

Year 1 have a PE lesson every Thursday morning. Please ensure that your child has a full labelled PE kit in school.

Cool Milk

If you would like your child to have milk, you will need to register them on the cool milk and pay the required termly fee.

Thank you for your continued support.

Miss Lamb.
