Year 3 2021 - 2022
YEAR 3 TA
Welcome to Year 3!
Our class teacher is Mr Dwyer and our teaching assistant is Mrs Lovell.
Welcome back to the second half of our Summer term.
I hope you're all as excited as me to continue our journey in Year 3!
During the next seven weeks, we will be enjoying some exciting learning. We will be delving into the topic of 'Volcanoes'. This will involve exploring what a volcano is and how they are formed, what happens when a volcano erupts and also what tectontic plates are! We will be looking at 'Light and Shadow' in science, focusing on recogninsing that we need light in order to see, explore the sun as a light source and identify the difference between night and day. Also, investigate what shadows are, why they are formed and how they behave.
Within RE we will be exploring 'Which rules should we follow?', in relation to the ten commandents within Christianity and what Christians learn from this. Also, discussing other religions and the commandments or rules which these people live by.
Furthermore, in PSHE we'll be focusing on Money, discussing payment resources, why and how people may borrow money, the choices we have when spending our money and ways to keep track of what we spend.
In DT, we will be learning all about how to construct a working circuit with one or more lights, and fit it in a decorative illuminated sign.
Lastly, in English, we will be looking at the book 'The Firework Maker's Daughter', focusing on 'instruction writing', including features of persuasive writing within our pieces around how to make a firework. Also, pupils will complete a 'Limerick' poem.
Please have a look at 'The Curriculum Overview' below (file to download) to learn all about the new things we will be learning about this half term.
Please be assured that as a school we are following the most up to date guidelines with your child's safety being one of our highest priorities.
If there is anything at all I can help and support you with, please do not hesitate to contact me on email@example.com
Every half term Year 3 will receive a homework grid. There are a variety of activities to complete. We understand that family life is busy, therefore, it is not essential that all of these activities are completed but we do ask that your child aims to complete some of the activities to reinforce their learning across the curriculum. Pupils will receive appropriate Spellings, Timestables and a Reading Comprehension text to complete on the Friday of each week, which then needs to be completed and revised for assessment the following Friday!
Reading and Spellings
Reading at home is incredibly valuable, children who read frequently at home are more likely to obtain the necessary progress required in Year 3. If possible, we would suggest that you read with your child for 10 minutes each night. Please read each book with your child and then encourage them to have a go at reading independently. Talking about the story with them and ask questions. This will develop comprehension skills which can be extremely impactful in enhancing their English ability.
Spellings will be handed out every Friday for a spelling test the following Friday. It is extremely important that your child works hard to practise their spellings at home to ensure a good result in their spelling test.
Please continue to use and check Bug Club regularly as stories appropriate to your child's ability will be allocated. These online story books will help your child meet their reading target, aiding them in improving their reading ability. If there are any issues with logging on to Bug Club, please contact me on the above email so that I can solve the problem. Login information will be provided on the papercopy being sent home during the first week of this Summer 1 term.
In your free time, please continue to enjoy our exciting new reading platform - SORA - a portal to a whole new world of reading. If there are any issues with logging on to SORA, please contact me on the above email so that I can solve the problem. Login information will be provided on the papercopy being sent home during the first week of this Summer term.
Year 3 have a PE lesson every Wednesday.
Please ensure that your child has a fully labelled PE kit in school.
If you would like your child to have milk, you will need to register them on the cool milk website and pay the required termly fee.
Thank you for your continued support.
