Mr Dwyer

Mrs Lovell

YEAR 3 TA

Welcome to Year 3!

Our class teacher is Mr Dwyer and our teaching assistant is Mrs Lovell.

Week 1 - w/c 5th January

I'm looking forward to continuing our journey in Year 3!

Science

Our Science unit is all about identifiyng and describing the functions of different parts of flowering plants, also how these parts work togehter in a perfect cycle.

English

In English, we will be focusing on The Abominables by Eva Ibbotson, predicting and writing a new chapter in the form of a diary entry. The children will be writing these in the first person with added detail. The poem we will be looking at is 'My Mother saw a dancing bear', using the poem structure and poetic sentences to then allow them to write their own descriptive poem about the yetis, linking back to 'The Abominables' story.

Reading, Spellings and Timestables

Please try to encourage your child to read regularly, it is very important. We will be doing a lot of work in school, but your child will need to practice at home. I will be updating the Active learn online reading books regularly and appropriate reading books will be available to take home. A reading journal will also be provided allowing you to keep Year 3 staff updated on your child's progress when reading at home.

Spellings will be set every Monday and then tested on the Friday of the same week. Your child also needs to be encouraged to practice their times tables regularly and complete the weekly timestable sheets being sent home. We practice timestables everyday in school so please try to test them regularly at home.

Bug Club, Sora, Curriculum Overview and Homework Grid

Tasks on the homework grid can be handed in at any given point throughout the term. If pupils can engage in tasks set to do at home it will be muchly appreciated and we would love to receive any work they hand in. All the tasks set are all linked to what we are learning in school, so please encourage your child to complete as many as possible. This will go towards class prizes and house points if done properly, and of course will benefit your child's development in the process.

The curriculum overview will give you an understanding of what will be focused on in each subject throughout the half term. Please have a look at 'The Curriculum Overview' below (file to download) to learn all about the exciting new things we will be learning about this half term.

The class homework grid and curriculum overview for this half term is available on this Year 3 class page. However, a copy of the homework grid and curriculum overview will be provided to your child to take home at the beginning of each half term. On this copy provided, there will be all the login details for both Bug Club and Sora, which are both really useful resources to help improve reading skills, inspire children to read or listen to audiobooks and improve understanding of different texts and books.

PE

Our PE days are on Friday morning, children are to come to school in their PE kits on this day.

Cool Milk

If you would like your child to have milk, you will need to register them on the cool milk website and pay the required termly fee.

Please do not hesitate to contact me  with any concerns or questions. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support.
