Miss Jones has very kindly organised a whole school art project entitled, 'A view from my window', please see the attached document for details. 

Mr Fielding is the current Year 3 teacher, supported by Mr Whittaker and Mrs Sneddon. This half-term we are extremely lucky to have our third year teaching student, Miss Mullin, who will be leading a lot of the sessions. Miss Mullin is a fabulous teacher and is really well-liked by the children so I know that we will enjoy this half-term immensley.

This term we are studying the Bronze age, some comtempoary art and we will be learning about the features and function of plants.

PE will be every Thursday afternoon with Joel, this half-term we will be participating in athletics. Please can you ensure that your child comes to school in their PE kit on that day. Thank you.

It has been a very strange year so far but in Year 3 we are dedicated to supporting your child through this time, we are already working hard on plugging gaps in learning and touching on the Year 3 curriculum.

Lesson 1: Monday

To generate vocabulary for character description

In this lesson, we will think about different ways of referring to the characters introduced in the opening scene of The BFG. We will then generate adjectives to describe the appearance and personality of the characters. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or paper, a pencil and a ruler.

Lesson 2: Tuesday

To practise and apply knowledge of suffixes: Past and present tense, including a test

In this lesson, we will practise the rules associated with adding the suffix -ed. We will learn how to practise using the small to large strategy and will test the words previously set to learn.

Lesson 3: Wednesday

To analyse the opening scene

In this lesson, we will analyse the opening scene of The BFG and generate vocabulary to describe the setting, what we can hear and what we can see. We will then think about how we feel when we watch the opening and how we can reflect this in our writing. For this lesson, you will need an exercise book or paper and a pencil.

To write the first part of the opening (Part 1)

In this lesson, we will learn about fronted adverbials and recap the purpose of an opening. We will then watch and order the first part of the opening. In this lesson, we will practise extending sentences using joining words. Following shared writing, we will carry on writing the first part of the opening. Reading:

The following three links are a series of three lessons regarding reading. There is a teacher actually speaking directly to your child and it goes the lessons at a nice steady pace. They are really good enjoyable lessons and I feel the children would get a lot out of them. Have a go and tell me what you think.

Maths:

I have attached the maths work books below, these are to be used as warm up activities and to explain the work for each day. Corresponding work sheets can be found in the home learning area and can be completed by typing the answers in, you will then need to save you work and re-sumbit it to the homework page for marking. These will be updated weekly.

This work is again part of the work the children were going to do when in class. It is taken from their Powermaths textbook which they use in class.

 Mr Whittaker's Maths Group - if your child works alongside Mr Whittaker in Maths their work is titled 'Group 2'. Corresponding work sheets can be found in the home learning area and can be completed by typing the answers in, you will then need to save you work and re-sumbit it to the homework page for marking. These will be updated weekly.

Please can your child take some extra time our to learn their 3, 4 and 8 times tables. I will add some links below to to direct you to some useful websites. I have also attached 3, 4 and 8 times tables to ythe Year 3 homepage.

Foundation Subjects:

I have created a link below titled 'Weekly Learning Tasks', this will be updated each week and will include a range of tasks to be completed throughout the week for each of the following subjects: RE, PSHE, Art, Music and Science. The worksheets for these tasks can be found in the home learning section in each child's portal and work can be uploaded for marking on there too.

I have attached some documents that will give your child some ideas for PE and keeping active during this time. They are saved as Panathlon and Active Points...any problems, let me know!

Each week we follow Picture News, this poses questions about society that the children really enjoy. There is a link copied below with resources and a little newspaper.
