Our Church
St Mary Magdalen's Church and School have always had a strong relationship. Although the school building was completed in 1891, the church was not built until 1903. Prior to the completion of the church, the congregation would meet in the school hall.
Today links between our church and school include class masses at the church and whole school celebratory services in church.
Fr David Welcome
I am delighted to be able to welcome you to the Parish of the Good Shepherd. Our Parish Vision commits us to being a ‘welcoming community sharing the joy of life with Jesus’. As we engage in this, it is truly a joy and a privilege to be able to work together with our wonderful Primary School at St Mary Magdalen’s, as together we seek to share the love of Jesus in the community here in Accrington. As a Parish, we have close links with our school, through our Choir Church; working together at our monthly Family Celebration Masses on a Sunday; and Coffee on the Yard, where members of the Church seek to engage with the school community in offering an invitation to the next Mass. School also supports numerous other occasions throughout the year. It is also a joy to be able to share in regular Collective Worship both in school, and at key moments throughout the year, in church, along with our weekly Class Mass, enabling children to experience worship in Church on a regular basis. It would be great to share some of that joy with you, and you are most welcome at any of our services in church, whether school services or regular masses.
With my love and prayer
Fr David
